California Western Law School Professor Michal Belknap discussed the Supreme Court landmark case Dennis v. United States, which argued on the constitutionality of the 1940 Smith Act. In the case, Eugene Dennis, the general secretary of the Communist Party USA, was convicted for conspiring and organizing the overthrow and destruction of the United States government by force and violence. The Supreme Court in 1950 affirmed this conviction.

This week on America & the Courts, Seventh Circuit Judge Richard Posner speaks on immigration and the increasing number of immigration cases in the U.S. before the Chicago Bar Association. President Reagan nominated Richard Posner to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in 1981. Judge Posner also served as the Seventh Circuit's Chief Judge from 1993 to 2000.

U.S. Solicitor General Paul Clement spoke about the role of the General's Office at the Federal Circuit Judicial Conference. He's introduced by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. Clement announced his resignation as solicitor general, he will step down on June 2. He was nominated by President Bush on March 14, 2005 and confirmed in June 2005. Clement has argued 49 cases before the Supreme Court.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco heard oral arguments in Ibrahim v. Homeland Security. The Court must decide the constitutionality of the no-fly list. In 2005 Stanford University student Rahinah Ibrahim was handcuffed and detained at the San Francisco International Airport while trying to fly home to Malaysia. After arriving in Malaysia, the U.S. Embassy revoked her visa, and she has not been allowed in the United States since.
