During the month of August, C-SPAN Radio's American Political Archive looks back 60 years to the end of the War in the Pacific.
 
 
THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIROSHIMA
Hear a 1945 speech by the "father of the atomic bomb," Robert Oppenheimer. We'll also have portions of oral history interviews with some of those who worked on the Manhattan Project, the government's secret effort to develop the atomic bomb. Cindy Kelly, founder and president of the Atomic Heritage Foundation, joins us to talk about the Manhattan Project and her organization's work.

PRISONER OF WAR/PAUL TIBBETS INTERVIEW
We continue our month-long look back 60 years to the end of the War in the Pacific as we focus on American soldiers. You'll hear a 2002 interview with Army veteran John Stensby, who served as part of the Corregedor defenses and became a Japanese prisoner of war. We'll also have a 1999 interview with Air Force veteran Paul Tibbets, the pilot of the B-29 that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima.
